Bill of Rights Program

“Examining Free Speech in the Digital Era”

A panel will discuss the issue of free spech in the digital era.

The program will feature a panel of experts, including:

                  Dr. Adam Seagrave, Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy

                  Dr. Nicholas Drummond, Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy

                  Jim Robertson, managing editor, Columbia Daily Tribune

              Peggy Placier, LWV co-president, will serve as moderator.

This event is cosponsored by the Columbia Public Library and the League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County.

Funding for the event and the accompanying display about the 225th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights has been provided by the Missouri Humanities Council in partnership with the National Archives.

Making Democracy Work: How News Media and Citizens Can Work Together

This will be a discussion of the Kettering Foundation grant to the Columbia Daily Tribune.  

The purpose of the grant is to improve democratic practices and promote public deliberation. Part of a “learning exchange” are the Trib Talks online, interactive and moderated dialogue forums. These forums allow citizen-driven dialogue.

 CAT TV can be found on Mediacom Channel 85, Charter Communications 985, and CenturyTel Prism 98.  The show replays on CAT TV at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
