Energy Forum: What is a Home Efficiency Score?

Learn about the free Home Energy Efficiency Score and the Home Performance with Energy Star Program provided by the City of Columbia, and how you can add value to your home, at our Energy Forum.

The forum will feature tools available from the Columbia Water & Light Department which give you an estimate of what typical energy bills for your house will be (and are not a measure of individual’s behavior patterns in energy use). Another tool, the Home Energy Score, is equivalent to MPG, Miles per Gallon, for cars and was developed by the Department of Energy. The two Energy Scores are based upon the characteristics of the house, and will be particularly useful when you are buying, renting, or selling a house.

Bandon Renaud, as Home Performance Manager supervises Columbia Water & Light’s Efficiency Score program, will share how the program works. This presentation will be followed by a round table discussion featuring a panel of housing industry individuals on how the Efficiency Score and Home Energy Score may be applied now and in the future. Panelists include Nick Peckham, past president of American Institute of Architects; Kenneth Kroll, home builder; Justin Wiles, Energy Link head auditor; and realtor Brent Gardner.
