Just by being a member you make a difference!. Your membership supports actions at national, state and local level to educate voters, monitor legislation and address important public policy issues. That is important and should reassure all members they are part of the action.

The Member Welcome can help you learn how you can find your niche to make more impact. If you want to be more involved you can sign up to receive action legislative alerts on your computer. Many of our members have a particular issue for which they have passion and use the League of Women Voters US resources to do research, monitor legislative action on national or state levels and find ways to make an impact. Others have time to serve on committees to help plan programs and action and conduct the work of our local League.

For 100 years, members have found that involvement in the League has led them to a better understanding of public policy issues and helped them be more active citizens. Many have found personal growth in working with others interested in public policy, and sharpened their skills in leadership, management, communication and public speaking.

League Presents Awards Given in Recognition of Great Work

Outstanding Citizen(s) Award for 2020

The League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County presented its Outstanding Citizen Award for 2020 to two people this year: to Stephanie Browning, director of the Columbia/Boone County Public Health Department and Scott Clardy, assistant director, in recognition of their outstanding leadership and exhaustive efforts toward making our community safe in the face of a one hundred year pandemic.

Liz Schmidt Community Service Award for 2020

The League presented the Liz Schmidt Community Service Award for 2020 to the “Vote Team Boone and the Boone County Clerk’s Office”, in recognition of the outstanding and new and creative ways that, under the direction of Brianna Lennon, County Clerk, were used to make sure everyone could vote safely and securely in the November 3, 2020 election. This was in the face of a one hundred year pandemic and complicated changes in the Missouri election law.

The Awards were presented at the recent “virtual” Founders Day Event of the League on December 11, 2020.
