Governor’s Proclamation

 Presentation of the Governor’s Proclamation Recognizing Missouri’s Ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Capitol Rotunda, Jefferson City

Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft will present the proclamation in honor of the historic ratification of the 19th Amendment in July 1919.

Lunch as a group: 12:00 noon at Madison’s Café, 216 Madison St., Jefferson City.
Buy your own lunch from the menu, with 18% gratuity because of the group seating.
Please RSVP to if you will attend lunch so Madison’s will be ready for us.

When you RSVP, please let us know:

1. If you plan to attend the ceremony at the Capitol
2. If you plan to have lunch at 12:00 at Madison’s Cafe
3. If you need a ride or would be willing to drive.


While in the rotunda there will be a photo op of members with the plaque installed in 1931 by the Missouri League of Women Voters. It lists members by name with this inscription:

This tablet is a tribute
To those women in Missouri whose courageous work
Opened the opportunities of complete citizenship
To all women in the state

The funds raised from this event go into the general fund of LWV and support our many yearly activities, including candidate forums and other public events on current public policy topics. This is a special year where we are observing the centennial of the 19th Amendment and also of the League of Women Voters. There will be a number of special events celebrating these 100th anniversaries.

 This will be an opportunity for the general public to meet the interim police chief and learn about the current and future plans of the department. Geoff Jones was appointed Columbia’s Interim Chief of Police on February 4, 2019.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Mental and Physical Health Benefits of Human and Companion Animal Interaction

Professor & director,
Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction, MU College of Veterinary Medicine

The League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County and the Children’s Grove will cosponsor a program about the mental and physical health benefits of companion animals.
Dr. Johnson will give an engaging presentation describing how interacting with companion animals benefits people with depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. She will also present research on the health benefits of dog walking. All these benefits occur across the lifespan and are rooted in the biology of bonds formed with animals.
