Contested Race on the August Primary Ballot
Thursday, July 23, 2020
7:00 p.m.

The only local contested race in the August 4, 2020 Primary Election is the Republican nomination for Northern Boone County Commissioner. The candidates are Brenndan Riddles, Jim Musgraves, Sam Boyce and Tristan Asbury.
Barbara Hoppe will serve as moderator.
Each candidate will make a two-minute opening statement. Then the LWV will have a few questions to start off the Q&A, followed by some audience questions via Chat. Finally, each candidate will make a one-minute closing statement.
The winner of the primary election will face current Northern Boone County Commissioner Janet Thompson on the November 3 general election.

Minority Disparities in Health

Mahree Skala and Steve Calloway
The presenters will discuss minority disparities in health, the social determinants of health, and implications for universal health care coverage. An invitation to view the forum will be sent to members and posted on our website and our Facebook page when available.
Mahree Skala, a longtime resident of Columbia, holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a master’s in psychology from MU. She worked in various roles at the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and then as Executive Director of the MO Association of Local Public Health Agencies. After retiring, she serves on the Columbia/Boone County Board of Health and chairs the LWV Health and Mental Health Committee.
Steve Calloway, also a long time Columbia resident, worked as a pharmacist at the University Hospital for 37 years. He has served on boards for Medicaid agencies assisting with drug policy. After retiring from MU he became the Director of Pharmacy for Missouri’s Medicaid program, MO HealthNet Division. He also served on the Columbia School Board from 2006 to 2009 and has served as
president of the Minority Men’s Network and Educational Foundation, an organization formed by late community leaders Eliot Battle and Arvarh Strickland in 1998.
