100th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating 100 years!

More than 80 members and friends gathered at the 100th Anniversary Gala Celebration on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Broadway Christian Church to celebrate the centennial of our chapter of the League of Women Voters.

 

 

 

 

We were serenaded with wonderful music by The Mothersingers, singing “Songs of Suffrage”. Gertrude Marshall, a member of the LWV, was an original member of the group, about 75 years ago.

We presented the Liz Schmidt Community Service Award to the Voluntary Action Center to Nick Foster for VAC’s fifty years of amazing service to the community. Several LWV members were involved in the beginning of VAC, including Gertrude Marshall, Hazel Riback and Helen Mitchell.

We presented the LWV Outstanding Citizen Award to Steve Hollis in recognition of his many years of outstanding service to the community.

Councilwoman Betsy Peters presented a proclamation from the City of Columbia naming December 2019 “League of Women Voters Month” for the City.

Presiding Commissioner Daniel K. Atkins presented a proclamation from Boone County naming December 2019 as the “League of Women Voters Month” for the county.
