The guest speaker
Rebecca A. Johnson
Professor & director,
Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction, MU College of Veterinary Medicine.
The League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County and the Children’s Grove will cosponsor a program about the mental and physical health benefits of companion animals.
Dr. Johnson will give an engaging presentation describing how interacting with companion animals benefits people with depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. She will also present research on the health benefits of dog walking. All these benefits occur across the lifespan and are rooted in the biology of bonds formed with animals.
