Redistricting

“How Does Redistricting Work?”
Lunch & Learn
Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 12:00 noon
Community room of HyVee (Conley Rd. store)

Presenters:

David Leuthold (professor emeritus of Political Science at MU)
Elaine Blodgett (former president of the League of Women Voters of Missouri)
Sharon Schneeberger (chair, LWVCBC Redistricting Study Committee)

The speakers will present an overview of redistricting and explain historical patterns that have been followed in Missouri.

Every ten years each state redefines voting districts by population. Missouri will redistrict city, county, state and congressional districts in 2021, using data from the 2020 census. Missouri’s actions could be affected by the Wisconsin and Maryland cases now being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court. Leagues across the U.S. are acknowledging this important issue and encouraging citizen involvement to achieve fair voting districts. Attendees are encouraged to come with their questions about this process.

Although no lunch is provided, attendees may purchase lunch in the store or bring their own.

This event is free and open to the public.
