Biomass-Fired Electricity

Biomass-Fired Electricity
Lunch & Learn
Tuesday, November 21, 2017
12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Columbia Public Library Friends Room

Guest Speakers:
Christian Johanningmeier, Power Production Supervisor for Columbia Water & Light
Ken Davis, Assistant Director of MU Energy Management

The speakers will discuss their current use of biomass and how biomass fits with future energy goals.

The University last year converted to burning just wood. The City of Columbia is converting one furnace to burning 100% biomass. Up until a year ago, they were burning 90% coal and 10% wood in that furnace.

Biomass has an advantage over wind and solar in that it is a furnace-based system and can produce electricity when there is no wind or sunlight.

Attendees can bring their lunch if they choose. Note the change in location this month.
