Mental Health Forum

What’s Happening in Mental Health Services for Children and Youth

Tuesday, May 20, 2014
7:00 p.m. in the Friends Room at the Columbia Public Library
Refreshments will be available at 6:30 p.m.

The forum will provide an update for the community on progress in providing mental health services, particularly for children and youth in our county. In recognition of May as Mental Health Month, this event is intended to raise awareness of mental health issues.

A panel of experts will include:

Melissa Armstrong, PhD, MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurological Disorders, Assistant Clinical Professor, Health Psychology;

Christine Corcoran, MSW, LCSW, Putting Kids First Coalition/Children’s Grove, President;

Tim Harlan, JD, National Alliance on Mental Illness/Missouri President;

Susan Perkins, MED, Columbia Public Schools, Coordinator, Elementary Guidance and Counseling; and

Kelly Wallis, JD, BSN, for Boone County Children’s Services Board, County Community Services.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A following their presentations. This event, which is co-sponsored by the Columbia Public Library, is free and open to the public.

With a panel featuring Jeannette Mott Oxford, Executive Director, Missouri Association for Social Welfare; Wiley Miller, psychologist; and Dr. Tracy Greever-Rice, Director of Social and Economic Data Analysis, OSEDA at MU.

Jim Robertson, managing editor of the Columbia Daily Tribune, is moderator.

Annual Meeting Thursday April 10

We hope you will join your LWV friends at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 10th at the Columbia Country Club (off Old 63, map). Vicki Russell will be our featured speaker and her topic will be “The World Needs the League of Women Voters and Newspapers More Than Ever.”  6:00 socializing, meal served at 6:30 PM.  Cost is $25 Contact Liz at 573-445-0665.
